This is just one of the many deck refurbishments I have completed over the years, on
both modern and classic yachts. On this particular vessel they are purely
cosmetic of course. The swept teak is glued to the grp surface using Sikaflex I prefer this method over epoxy, as it gives more
flexibility and protection against water ingress under the deck structure. Deck
primer and bonding tape is used in all plank rebates, ensuring caulking stability in the
marine environment under all climatic conditions.
The original multi section production deck on this vessel was fabricated from teak faced ply and in a
very poor state, it required complete renewal. The new teak deck was laid in a
traditional manner, including margins to the coach roof, and extending to the
alloy toe rails. The helmsmans seat margin boards were laminated from sections of 3mm teak strip. |
