  Refit of "Caper" in 2008...

The refit of this 48' Sparkman & Stephens design was started in November 2007. She was taken back to a bare hull, as the glass moulded interior was in a very poor state and needed to be replaced. Much of the GRP work was both altered and reinforced, and this was undertaken by Mr Chris Jones of Gweek Quay Boatyard. The custom interior was designed  by Ed Burnett and specified a traditional feel in both painted surfaces and varnished teak. All bulkheads, both main and sub were grp bonded to the hull using a heavy lay up, giving an incredibly strong mono-coque structure. The interior furniture was then fixed to it. The deckhead was again fashioned in a traditional style adding stiffness and strength with deck beams. This together with lining the hull sides with strip cedar, and a solid softwood cabin sole had the effect of creating a warm "wooden" boat feel. The teak deck on this particular vessel was supplied and fitted by Moody Decks of Southampton. All Mast and Rigging work was undertaken by A2 Rigging of Falmouth and Gweek. The project from start to finish was inspected by Mr David Cox, marine surveyor.

This was an immensely satisfying project to be involved in. Made more so by the idylic surroundings of Gweek Quay Boatyard and the team I was working with. Mainly : Duncan Skingley of Sunfish Marine)  Barny (master of GRP & AWLGRIP)  David Walkey (Master Shipwright)  Mel and the boys from A2 Rigging,  David Cox (marine surveyor)  Chris Jones (all things GRP & PAINT)  Ed Burnett  (Designer) and not forgetting, Mr Fergus Ryan of Dublin (Owner)  The delivery to Dublin was wet and a little uncomfortable, but the sun was shining on arrival...
